A unique identity, a distinct recoginition has done us proud. All thanks to Dharmalingam Udaya Kumar, a native of Tamil nadu, a Bombay IITian .

After experts opinion, the cabinet approved his unique symbol among 3000 entries that poured in. The symbol includes both Devanagiri 'Ra' and Roman 'R' with two parallel lines running on the top depicting 'Equal To' sign. This uniqueness has put India in the elite list of nations with distinct currency symbol.

I personally appreciate the way the symbol is designed, because,
  • Had it been derived from any regional language, then that one reason is worth a day's Bandh and constant chaos for rest of the days. More often that state would claim its value to be higher than rest of the states.
  • Had he designed it based on religious symbols then we would have had incessant communal riots for next coming years.
  • And finally had it been politically biased, then there is not much to contemplate.
Now the big question is, Can this symbol find a place in the digital world.??? Unlike the dollar this is yet to be keyboard friendly. Moreover with India's presence in world arena growing exponentially, Can this distinction catapult it further ???

The symbol will find its place in all newly printed notes.
