Lokpal bill or Analogous Govt...???
Posted by Vinod Basi
It has a been ages since I blogged, shows why I belong to those overwhelming amount of mundane bloggers, aptly.
What enthuses me to do so...??
Well,
For quite sometime the Public Clamor has taken shape in the form of Lokpal, which is thoroughly a huge stride towards corruption free India, now having said that, How optimistic are we..??
Bribes and peddling are prima facie evidence on how this country over the years have worked passionately building a system rooted with corruption and power going hand in hand. The sobriety of the public was taken as an advantage to create a quasi-government which works for no one, except for those pocket fillers in the power.
Right To Information (RTI) act, a cumbersome process, proved to be an elixir for those whom, redressal was a curse. Eventually with the people waking up from their hallucinated sleep have started vehemently protesting against the incessant peddling and corruption. In the wake of it, is Lokpal bill, which, if succeeded will provide transparency across all verticals.
Scope of drafting a Lokpal bill without people trying to catch the limelight seems discouraging. The discrepancy starts from who should draft the bill to who should come under it.
Now,
What enthuses me to do so...??

Now,
- Supposing the bill gets drafted(which is unlikely) and the PM comes under it , will it not facilitate a parallel government to exist..?? It is similar to having two kings in a state, which is worser than the bill not existing itself.
Leaving the PM out of the Lokpal ambit would enable a fair play. But in the wake of PM getting involved in the corruption, let a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) controlled by Lokpal probe into it.
- After the successful implementation of the bill, who decides on the Lokpal committee governing members, do we get to vote for the representatives in the committee or is it again nepotism..??
The Lokpal governing members should be an elected representatives from different streams, but again with people vouching for their representatives, chances of bribing and nepotism is high. If the members of judiciary happens to dominate the committee, let a grand jury lead it.
- Does the Lokpal bill provide protection to the whistleblowers or witnesses..??
Because any Judiciary is weighed successful only when there is no fear among the public to raise their voices against any form of power misused.
- How does the Lokpal indict someone who is found to be guilty, do they get a fair trial or is it just assumptions made...??
Because, the loopholes to let the guilty scathe free is an attribute which our Judiciary has championed over the years.
Well finally, with President remaining a sitting duck throughout , lets hope that the Lokpal does not turn out to become a parallel government jinxing our already jinxed life.
Remember,
With Power comes Corruption. . .
Less likely that the status quo will change, Its a positive and encouraging sign that people can finally have a say on the nation's affairs, by not just getting their fingers inked but with a greater role of overseeing the functioning of the government.
Jai Hind...
