There are instances when you feel its your duty to retort and rebuke, this is one of those to me. Being an avid reader, I pretty much make conclusions myself, which on the most part would be naive and belligerent. This post would certainly find its place amongst those.

In my previous posts, I have always said this country's secularism is held by a thin fragile thread. Godhra riots stands a testimony for that. It stands a testimony for the Barbarism this country's sons have bred. It stands a testimony on how instigation and repercussion could leave lasting scars. It stands a testimony on how media and cheap political stunts go hand in hand.

This post is not to boot-lick a majority or minority group. Infact in our country, every Tom, Dick and Harry has equal say, hence the majorities and minorities are just illusions of vote bank politics.

Media for a decade now has cashed upon Godhra and post Godhra riots. They miserably failed to understand the backlash of  "Paid yellow journalism" on a society. That in itself is a gross failure on an otherwise responsible job. Reporters were busy reaping TRP ratings by showing the plight of people suffering, thus instigating hatred amongst the communities.

There has been instances where people actually forgot how all these started, thanks to an irresponsible media.  I'm not trying to reproduce the chain of events that happened, but rather trying to help each other understand how we lost our grounds to an irresponsible media.

1984 Anti-Sikh riots was also a blotch in our country's secularism. But the media (if there was one) was far more sensible those days. The journalists were ethical. But now its changed for worse.

"Deganga riots",(I bet only a handful of you actually knew about this riot priorly) was very poorly reported, Why..???  Its all paid news that is telecasted and reprinted. This country has a pathetic network of print and visual media, to which people across all verticals and horizontals fall prey to. Media has always toyed with our sentiments, and still continue doing it. The media has turned out to be fear-mongers. They churn the filth and incessantly project it, making our already vexed life, vexed.

Nevertheless,  Can we go around blaming them...??? There should be onus on the people to think rationally, sensibly as well.
I think so far we have done it right.  10yrs later I see less animosity, less hatred. There is a collective longing for a peaceful society. There are still ghosts left to exorcise, but the sliver of hope and peace has crept in to enable an amicable and harmonious society. People have by far grown and despite a few radicals, tried burying the hatchet. There is a sense of remorse in both communities for what they have done to each other.

Finally,
Godhra stands a testimony for a society rebuilt, it stands a testimony for collective responsibility, it stands a testimony for the Nation's oneness.

Hoping there wouldn't be another deplorable act of madness.
Jai Hind....
